Important 9-1-1 Notice for VoIP Customers
VoIP-based 9-1-1 service works differently than traditional landline 9-1-1. In the event of a power outage, internet outage, network congestion, or service disruption, your VoIP service — including the ability to place 9-1-1 calls — may not be available.
Because VoIP calls are routed over the internet, emergency operators may not automatically receive your physical location or call-back number. You are responsible for keeping your registered service address current with Rooted Communications so that 9-1-1 dispatchers can locate you.
If you use your VoIP phone from a location other than your registered service address, or if you experience a power or internet outage, you must be prepared to use an alternative means (such as a cellular phone) to reach emergency services. Please inform all users of the VoIP service — including guests, employees, and family members — of these 9-1-1 limitations.
The Company’s liability for 9-1-1 service is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. The Company, its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents are not liable for any damages (direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive) arising from or related to the provision or operation of 9-1-1 services. Customers acknowledge that 9-1-1 service may be limited or unavailable in the event of a power outage, broadband service interruption, or other technical failures beyond the Company’s control.
